Our fundamental rights, such as freedom of opinion and expression, are currently under particularly intense pressure. On one side are those who call for restrictions on public debate in the name of protecting certain social groups. On the other side are those who defend pluralism and diversity of opinion as core values of a free society.
This tension is, at least in part, a consequence of recent technological developments that have significantly expanded our means of communication. Two main factors play a role here: cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence. Both represent potential breakthroughs and, at the same time, potential threats to freedom. At this event, we will take a closer look at these developments and analyze what needs to be done now to preserve fundamental human rights.
The event will be held in English. Admission is free. Registration is required.
Speakers:
Giacomo Zucco, entrepreneur, science communicator, and principal sponsor of Lugano’s Plan ₿.
Barry Smith, Professor of Philosophy and Ontology at the Università della Svizzera Italiana and the University at Buffalo, USA.
The event is organized by the Istituto Liberale (the Ticino branch of the Liberal Institute) in collaboration with LPU (Law and Politics at the Università della Svizzera Italiana), Students For Liberty Switzerland, and the Bitcoin Club.
